Reports early this morning suggests that Liverpool Football Club is close to securing the services of James Milner
Liverpool hope to confirm the signing of James Milner by the end of this week, as manager Brendan Rodgers prepares for critical talks on the club’s future with chairman Tom Werner over the next 24 hours.
The Reds have made the move for the out-of-contract international a priority and are confident of reaching an agreement with the 29-year-old.
If the deal goes through, Milner, who moved to City from Aston Villa in 2010, would join the Reds on 1 July.
Milner began his career with hometown club Leeds United before spending four years at Newcastle United.
He joined Villa for a season prior to a move to Manchester City that was thought to be worth £26m.
Milner has won the Premier League title twice and the FA Cup once during his five years in Manchester.
He made his England debut against Holland in August 2009 and remains a regular in Roy Hodgson's squad.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher is hoping he will finalise a move to Anfield in the next fortnight.
And the Sky Sports pundit says Milner could now rival Jordan Henderson both for his position in Brendan Rodgers’ midfield and also as a potential successor to Steven Gerrard as club captain.
Although he won’t earn as much at Anfield, he’ll still become one of Liverpool’s top earners and his salary will increase significantly from his current deal at City. He can also expect a substantial signing on fee. However, it is the prospect of being a first choice, senior player every week that appears to have convinced him to sacrifice Champions League football and a guaranteed title bid at City to join Rodgers’s restructuring of his side.
He has 53 caps and one goal, scoring against Moldova in 2012.
